about

scawo3d

Pioneering 3D concrete printing technology based on a decades-long history of craftsmanship and mechanical engineering.

Scawo3D developed the world's first 3D concrete inkjet printhead using Selective Paste Intrusion (SPI) technology in 2021. Building on over 10 years of digital staircase manufacturing experience, we created this breakthrough to eliminate traditional formwork requirements. Our founder initially developed CNC-milled formwork systems in 2015. The natural progression to direct concrete printing allows us to manufacture complex geometries with greater efficiency and precision.

1987
Blacksmith

Founded as Metall Concept in 1987 in Sarentino, South Tyrol, the company worked as a traditional blacksmith. Soon after, the services were extended to specialist metal works for the AEC sector, including stairs and facade systems, producing the highest quality metal works for renowned architects such as Norman Foster or Zaha Hadid.

2010
SCA

No molds, no formwork, no waiting. Direct from digital design to finished object with millimeter precision. Selective Cement Activation (SCA) featured dry mortar in a large scale particle bed and was capable of producing highly accurate shapes.

2012
CNC Production

The production was further extended to cutting-edge manufacturing technologies including CNC machines. More complex job could be realised and clients from automotive and aviation industries are to this day using our parent company MC Tooling's services.

2015
Scawo System

Born from the simple observation that concrete stair manufacturing had not changed in decades, Scawo3D began transforming the industry over 10 years ago. "Scawo" became a patented system for CNC-milled formwork from EPS, revolutionizing the fabrication of complex stair designs.

2022
SPI Production

Since taking up production im 2022, we're dedicated to revolutionising the construction industry through additive manufacturing, making complex concrete structures accessible, affordable, and sustainable. Every project demonstrates our commitment to quality, precision, and pushing the boundaries of what's possible.

2022
First SPI Project

Stair G. was the first ever project at architectural scale to be realised using the SPI method. The central element of the staircase is assembled from 10 stay-in-place formwork boxes and was printed during a single day.

With two generations of staircase construction experience, we combine traditional craftsmanship with digital manufacturing expertise. Our team includes specialists in concrete technology, digital design, and precision manufacturing.
